Reykjavik Fashion Festival, or better known as RFF, is held 14-16th of march. This is the fourth time this festival is held and it is to draw attention to Icelandic fashion design. I might be able to go back to Iceland on my Easter break, so hopefully I can attend this event. Design March, which is Iceland´s most important annual design event, is also held this same weekend so march is definitely the month to be in Iceland.
Eight very talented and interesting Icelandic designers have been picked to present their collections at RFF this year.
Andersen&Lauth. First created 1934. Today four women stand behind this brand and they design according to its usually high standard quality. This year autumn/winter collection is inspired from art and culture mixed with vintage and romance.
ELLA. Established in 2011. Elinros Lindal, and few other very talented designers, are behind this brand and the goal is to bring honesty into the fashion world. This year collection reflects the state of mind of the design team, it is time to celebrate but with grace and mindfulness.
Farmers Market. Created 2005. Inpired by Icelandic roots, combining classic Nordic design elements with chic modernity. They use natural fabrics in their clothing, respect for the environment is their key value.
Huginn Muninn. “Fine clothing should not define anyone’s path, but help everyone find its own.” is the keynote for the design Huginn and Muninn. Their design of shirts were at first inspired by Iceland´s history and heritage but has developed into new root and opening it to new influences.
Jör by Guðmundur Jörundsson. Created 2012 by fashion designer Guðmundur Jörundsson and his partner Gunnar Örn Petersen.Their first collection blew fresh winds into the Icelandic fashion scene. They design both mens- and womenswear.
Mundi 66° North. Collaboration between two very big labels in Icelandic fashion world. 66° North with his highly technical production quality and Mundi with his extremely creative surreal world. The collection is called “post- post-apocalypse”. This is the one I am most excited about! Can not wait to see it.
REY. Founded in 2010. Rebekka Jónsdóttir is the designer behind the brand. The key is to make timeless quiality clothing for women with strong emphasis on fabric selection and tailoring. Minimal with a twist is the design aesthetic of this brand
ÝR. Ýr Þrastadóttir is the designer behind the label ÝR. The collection this year is inspired by human anatomy, historical aristocracy and of the androgynous street wear of today’s style.
